Easy and delicious holiday cookie recipe.  I got so many requests to share the recipe for these glazed apple cookies after posting them on my insta stories! They are so delicious and the perfect flavors for the holiday season. I am not kidding when I say I ate at least 10 while baking them and also 1/4 of the cookie dough (oh my gosh it is heaven).

I love that these cookies are a change from your typical chocolate cookie. The flavor is amazing and the glaze is the perfect topping. They would be a sweet hostess gift, great with coffee for your house guests and a delicious dessert option for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Add these to your new favorite cookie recipes!

…for the cookies:

1/2 cup shortening
1 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1-2 cups chopped granny smith apples
1/4 cup milk
*optional: 1 cup chopped walnuts, 1 cup chopped raisins

note: we don’t add walnuts or raisins so we usually use closer to 2 cups of apples to fill the cookies a bit more!

…for the glaze:

1/2 cup sifted confectioners sugar
1 tbsp soft butter
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/2 tbsp half and half

*Combine all and mix until smooth. Set aside!

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a mixing bowl, beat shortening and brown sugar until fluffy. Add egg and blend together. In another mixing bowl, stir together the sifted flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Mix half of the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Add apples and mix together. Stir in the remaining dry ingredients. Add milk and mix well.

Drop from tablespoon 1 1/2 inches apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes (until edges are browned). Remove and set on rack to cool (this is important because the cookies are soft!). Spread with glaze while warm. Let cool and enjoy!
