My Updated Skincare Routine

My skincare routine has found a lot more consistency over the past year and I thought it was time to share a little update of the products that I use! If I’m being honest, routine isn’t the best word to describe my process. I really bounce between products throughout the week. Some days I use a retinol, some days I exfoliate more than others, some days I stick with just an antioxidant and SPF. It really varies but the products that I use have stayed pretty regular.

Before diving into products I think it is important to share that I recently finished three rounds of microneedling and I have seen/felt a HUGE difference in my skin. I did the procedure at Cameo in Mount Pleasant and decided to do so because I knew I wanted something that targeted increasing collagen, pore size, tone and texture. It is recommended that you do it in a sequence of three sessions, 6-8 weeks apart. By the third procedure you can see up to a 400% increase in your collagen production (which is crazy!). My skin is way more buoyant, tight, smooth and bright and I plan to do my neck/chest next! After the sequence of three sessions you can do upkeep here and there with 1-2 sessions a year. Highly, highly recommend!

I also recently got Dysport in my forehead and at my 11 lines on my forehead. Similar to Botox, Dysport paralyzes your muscles for a short period of time to alleviate deeper wrinkles. I took a year off from it and just wanted a little boost. It definitely relieves the heaviness from your face if you deal with deeper wrinkles. Anywho, just giving full transparency because products can only do so much, you know? I wish I had a better habit of using my NuFace every day (determined to be better!) and gua sha and all the things.

When it comes to skincare, I think the biggest shift has been using stronger products. I started consistently getting facials every 8-12 weeks and after many conversations with my esthetician I realized that at almost 40, my skin doesn’t require maintenance as much, but products that will go to work. That means a stronger retinol, Vitamin C, exfoliator and moisturizer. I don’t use my “nice” products at every application but I save some of my favorite brands that I can get online for day and then use the tougher stuff at night. Here is what I use…

My biggest addition has been products from Biologique Recherché, which I learned about from Spa Azure here in Charleston. I had heard the cult following of P50 before and was so excited when I was introduced to its magic! The entire line is designed for epidermal reconditioning. I buy mine directly from Spa Azure if you’re local!

Nighttime Routine – I’m going to start here because this is when I use my heavy hitters. These are the products that go to work while I’m asleep and truly target signs of aging (discoloration, fine lines, age spots, texture, etc.).

Lotion P50 1970 – basically the best exfoliator/toner I’ve ever used. It is super strong and works to exfoliate, cleanse, hydrate and purify. I use it 3-4x a week at night followed by a heavy moisturizer.

Creme Masgue Vernix – this stuff is incredible! Super hydrating for distressed skin. I’ve learned that my skin reacts heavily to environment stressors and this lotion was inspired by the vernix that is one our skin at birth. Packed with fat and proteins to portect your skin and give it a “second birth.” I also use and love Creme VG Derm which is a more everyday moisturizer. I use both of these products sparingly. I use the Creme Masque Vernix at night after the P50 and the VG Derm in the mornings if I need it (heavily during colder months!).

Skinbetter AlphaRet Overnight Cream – a strong retinol. Recommended by my esthetician who did my microneedling. I use this 3-4x a week after cleaning. I usually alternate with the P50! This works to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Daytime Routine – sort of like my reset! I cleanse (didn’t photograph but use Cetaphil or Tula) and then apply the following…

Biossance Toner – doesn’t exfoliate like P50 but more jeans cleans out any gunk that got into my pores. It helps me to feel like I’m starting fresh with each routine.

Skinceuticals C E Ferulic – Vitamin C & E Serum that DOES WORK for your skin. Overall improves signs of aging or skin damage. If you live in the sun then this is a must! If I’m consistent I notice a huge difference in the glossiness and tightness of my skin. This is a must!

Amniotique VG Hydration Serum – another favorite serum that I’ll add before my moisturizer. Especially when my skin feels parched in the morning!

U Beauty Super Hydrator – My other favorite moisturizer that I use a lot during the day. It is THICK. I love this in the summer because it makes your skin so glowy and I’ll add a little blush, fluff my eyebrows and go. This is a really really great moisturizer if you’re looking for one!

ELTA MD SPF – this is the SPF I use daily (or this one but not as moisturizing!) and honestly it can double as a moisturizer after my serums. I love this stuff and it makes your skin tone look beautiful.

Ok I think that’s it! Let me know if you have any questions! I obviously have some other favorites (like I’ll forever love this Sunday Riley Moisturizer and Auto Correct Eye Cream) but wanted to share the staples that I really think have supported my skin the last 6 months. You can tell from the descriptions that they are all working to combat similar things and that’s exactly what my skin needs at this stage. Hope this was helpful!
