We Are Moving!

Happy New Year! It feels so good to welcome 2021 with some exciting news from the Adams Family. We are moving! The past couple months have been a whirlwind but it feels so good to finally share this with you.

We are moving to Charleston! We actually made the decision while we were there in November (read more about that month here). Our plans for that trip were very purposeful in that we wanted to see if it was somewhere we could picture raising our family and we quickly realized that answer was yes. So, about 2 weeks into our trip we met with a realtor, looked at a few homes, put an offer on a house, had our inspection (all while we were there!) and we just closed on our new home at the end of December!

This decision is very bittersweet. I’ve spent numerous days crying over selling our sweet house that I love so much and leaving a place that I’ve called home for almost my entire life. As most of you know, we live very close to family/friends here in Chicago and that is definitely the greatest void we will feel moving to Charleston. But I’m also trusting this pull and the new adventure that awaits for us. If 2020 taught me anything it’s that things can change in an instance, nothing is permanent and 99.9% of my time is spent with my own little family unit. Knowing that no matter where we are, we have each other and that’s enough.

Charleston has always felt like an extension of home. My grandparents have lived there my entire life (my 94 year old grandmother still does!) and I’ve visited numerous times a year for as long as I can remember. It’s a place that immediately makes me feel comforted, makes me feel like home and for that I’m so grateful to share this new adventure with my kids and Dave.

2020 was a big year of realizations for me. I [we all were!] was forced to shift and adapt and adjust to all of these changes while trying to grow a business, raise a family, maintain a household, be present, let go of personal space, change my routine, grow a baby and so much more. It made me realize the importance of being happy in your situation, despite whatever is going on in the world. Taking control of what you can control! One thing I experienced this year was this overwhelming feeling of wanting something more, something different. Dave and I are so grateful that our careers allow us the ability to make this change – and I just want to emphasize how much we don’t take that for granted! Our family loves to be outdoors and being closer to nature is something that feels like a big void here in Chicago. I’m so excited to be close to the ocean, to have nicer weather and to raise our boys in a place that feels so special to us.

We will be moving in early March so until then we will be savoring every last moment at home here in Chicago. We have already sold our home and are grateful that we get to stay put for a couple of months as we welcome baby boy. I am also so excited to take you through our new home and the decorating process! We are already working on some changes to the house before we move in so lots of fun content in store!

When I think about starting this blog and how many of you have been on this journey with me from single life, to dating, to getting engaged and marrying Dave, to Charlie and Jack and my journey into motherhood – WOW. Thank you for continuing to support these changes and shifts. Whether you realize it or not, you are one of the constants in my life and I’m so grateful for this community.

I can’t wait to take you on our next adventure! Helllllllo 2021!

  10. Congratulations! We moved from Wheaton to coastal Mississippi 10 years ago and it was the best decision, especially if you are a nature lover. You can be outside nearly all year comfortably- I especially love being able to run in nice weather most of the year. So happy for you and your family, I’ve been following you for a while now and you are my absolute favorite “influencer” and feel like a friend.

  11. As soon as I saw all your Instagram pictures and stories about your trip, I knew there was no WAY you weren’t moving to Charleston. I am from Canada and have never seen anything like it, maybe a vacation there is in order after the pandemic! All the best Liz, some amazing adventures ahead.

Love following your sweet family and I wish you all the best as you make this move! Welcome to the east coast!

  17. Congratulations! It’s a long shot, but I currently live in Charleston. I know you have family here, but it’s always nice to have friends, too. My husband and I have been here 14 years including college, so we know our way around. (I also have 2 young kids!) Feel free to email me if you’re interested or have other questions. Good luck with everything. 🙂

  18. Congrats! I grew up in Pawleys Island an hour north and spent lots time in Charleston. Def a soft spot in my heart as a long-time Virginian now. xo

  19. So excited for you guys. I knew you’d be moving after watching your stories and posts. We made the decision to move to San Diego from LA this year. Though it’s not as big of a move, we had family members who were upset. But like you, feel like it was the right move for our family and we feel so at peace in our new home.

  20. Oh Liz!!!! So happy for you. As a girl that moved from Chicago to central Illinois, it will be hard but everything will be okay. Chicago will always be home. Best of luck on your new adventure. So excited for you and you guys!

  21. I’m so happy for you, Liz, and wish I had done this when my children were little. I can’t wait to follow along on your big adventure!

  22. Congrats! I just saw your stories about moving away from family and really resonated with what you said about making a choice based on your individual family unit. A few years ago we moved away from family and it ended up being the best decision for us financially and career wise. Now, we are considering moving again, based on where we feel we’d be happiest as parents. I have two really active boys and we feel happiest when we’re outside and in the sun! Obviously not everyone has the privilege to make a change like this, but we do, and I think taking care of your entire family’s needs is super important if you’re able to. Best of luck!

  23. Congratulations on the move! My parents relocated to the Charleston area two years ago and love it. I can’t wait to see more hole content. My family and I are in the same boat. We plan to relocate to Southern CA from NYC at the end of the school year.

  24. So excited for y’all! If I ever leave Texas; I only want to move to Seattle or Charleston. There is something magical about that city. Best of luck and maybe I will see you around town on our annual Charleston trip! We go to Charleston every year in early October and rent a beach house on one of the islands.

  25. Congratulations! I have a very special place in my heart for Charleston. I am so excited for your family and wish all the best on this next step in your adventure. I cannot wait to follow along and support you all. xoxo

  26. Oh this is just such wonderful news! So happy for all 5 of you & Webster! Congratulations on this next journey for the Adams family lives!

  27. Congratulations Liz!! I am so excited for you and your family! I wish you all the best on this new adventure. 💗

  28. Aahhhh!!!! Congratulations!!! So happy for your sweet family! Cannot wait to see your new life come together in Charleston!

  29. Charleston is an amazing Southern city and a beautiful place to raise your children. Congratulations! Best wishes!

  30. Congratulations!! We moved to Charleston after spending three years in Pittsburgh for work. I totally understand your sentiment and can tell you it has been the best decision! Welcome to the neighborhood (it truly feels like a small town)!

  31. Congratulations!! Such an exciting time! Best of luck with the move and can’t wait to follow along as your new adventures unfold!

  32. I’m so excited for your family. Originally from Chicago but moved to the south when I was young. My mom couldn’t take the winters anymore. I’ve always been impressed with how much you are outside with the boys in the Chicago winters. I know that Charleston will be a wonderful home for your family and hope your parents and siblings will visit a lot! And that picture of Webster on IG running across the beach—his happy place!

  33. Congratulations, Liz! 🙂

In a future update, would you be willing to share some details surrounding your search – how you went about evaluating different areas, why you decided on a particular neighborhood/home, and any other tips & tricks for people like me (+ my husband and 2 yr old son) that are considering making a move but don’t quite know where to begin.

Thank you! I wish you & your sweet family all the very best. ♥️

  34. We did the same thing 🙂 We have been in Charleston (Mount Pleasant) for 4 years now after living in Chicago for almost 10 years (West Loop). We are much happier here since we get to be outdoors SO much more and it is a wonderful place to raise a family. Welcome!

  35. Hi Liz! We relocated from Naperville in August! We moved to the NC/SC border (technically NC). We are three hours north of Charleston. We’ve been traveling there a lot lol. Anyway, if you have any questions about our move out here let me know. We actually lived on James Island for a month while our house was being built because we sold our Naperville house so fast. Excited for you!
