Happy New Year! It feels so good to welcome 2021 with some exciting news from the Adams Family. We are moving! The past couple months have been a whirlwind but it feels so good to finally share this with you.
We are moving to Charleston! We actually made the decision while we were there in November (read more about that month here). Our plans for that trip were very purposeful in that we wanted to see if it was somewhere we could picture raising our family and we quickly realized that answer was yes. So, about 2 weeks into our trip we met with a realtor, looked at a few homes, put an offer on a house, had our inspection (all while we were there!) and we just closed on our new home at the end of December!
This decision is very bittersweet. I’ve spent numerous days crying over selling our sweet house that I love so much and leaving a place that I’ve called home for almost my entire life. As most of you know, we live very close to family/friends here in Chicago and that is definitely the greatest void we will feel moving to Charleston. But I’m also trusting this pull and the new adventure that awaits for us. If 2020 taught me anything it’s that things can change in an instance, nothing is permanent and 99.9% of my time is spent with my own little family unit. Knowing that no matter where we are, we have each other and that’s enough.
Charleston has always felt like an extension of home. My grandparents have lived there my entire life (my 94 year old grandmother still does!) and I’ve visited numerous times a year for as long as I can remember. It’s a place that immediately makes me feel comforted, makes me feel like home and for that I’m so grateful to share this new adventure with my kids and Dave.
2020 was a big year of realizations for me. I [we all were!] was forced to shift and adapt and adjust to all of these changes while trying to grow a business, raise a family, maintain a household, be present, let go of personal space, change my routine, grow a baby and so much more. It made me realize the importance of being happy in your situation, despite whatever is going on in the world. Taking control of what you can control! One thing I experienced this year was this overwhelming feeling of wanting something more, something different. Dave and I are so grateful that our careers allow us the ability to make this change – and I just want to emphasize how much we don’t take that for granted! Our family loves to be outdoors and being closer to nature is something that feels like a big void here in Chicago. I’m so excited to be close to the ocean, to have nicer weather and to raise our boys in a place that feels so special to us.
We will be moving in early March so until then we will be savoring every last moment at home here in Chicago. We have already sold our home and are grateful that we get to stay put for a couple of months as we welcome baby boy. I am also so excited to take you through our new home and the decorating process! We are already working on some changes to the house before we move in so lots of fun content in store!
When I think about starting this blog and how many of you have been on this journey with me from single life, to dating, to getting engaged and marrying Dave, to Charlie and Jack and my journey into motherhood – WOW. Thank you for continuing to support these changes and shifts. Whether you realize it or not, you are one of the constants in my life and I’m so grateful for this community.
