Giving back is something that is very important to my family, especially this time of year. When I was growing up, every year my family would “adopt” another family for the season and shopping for them was always one of the highlights of our holidays. It’s something I’m determined to instill in my own kids. I have a few organizations that I donate to consistently throughout the year but given the hardships of 2020, doing a little bit more around the holidays feels special for all. Here are a five amazing organizations you can support this holiday season:
5 Organizations to Support this Holiday Season
Share Our Spare: Change a child’s life by donating your new or gently used baby items. Your extras are someone else’s essentials. At Share Our Spare we’re committed to providing children in need the basics they need to thrive. Our mission is to ensure every child in Chicago has the essentials they need to thrive in the first five years of life. We do this by collecting new and gently used baby items from those with “extras” to spare and distributing them to families living in poverty.
The Little Market: The Little Market is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the economic self-sufficiency of women worldwide through dignified income opportunities. Our mission is anchored in the fundamental belief that every person has the right to safe jobs and fair, livable wages. Each piece is made following fair trade principles, ultimately contributing to a life-changing sustainable income and giving back to the people who made it. WE ETHICALLY SOURCE from THE MOST UNDERSERVED GROUPS INCLUDING: individuals living in poverty, people with disabilities women transitioning out of homelessness, refugees survivors of trafficking and domestic violence.
Dress for Success: Dress for Success is a global not-for-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
Baby2Baby: Baby2Baby provides children living in poverty, ages 0-12 years, with diapers, clothing and all the basic necessities that every child deserves. Led by Co-Presidents Kelly Sawyer Patricof and Norah Weinstein, Baby2Baby is a mega diaper bank and nonprofit organization providing essential items to children in need across the country. In the last 9 years, Baby2Baby has distributed over 100 million items to children in homeless shelters, domestic violence programs, foster care, hospitals and underserved schools as well as children who have lost everything in the wake of disaster. We also signed up for their Family2Family program this year.
Feeding America: Feeding America is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization—a powerful and efficient network of 200 food banks across the country. As food insecurity rates hold steady at the highest levels ever, the Feeding America network of food banks has risen to meet the need. We feed 40 million people at risk of hunger, including 12 million children and 7 million seniors.
