It’s that time of year – the 2020 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! Today the sale is open to ICON status Nordstrom Card Holders. Here are the shopping dates you need to know.
2020 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Start Dates by Access Level
I’m just going to say this now so you know – this sale is very unimportant. I feel torn to share about it because I know a lot of you buy your entire fall/winter wardrobe during this sale. I also know that talking about this sale during a worldwide pandemic is somewhat tone deaf. I just want to say that whichever camp you are in, please feel free to utilize or click away.
I’m here because every year I share about this sale my content around it is very minimal (maybe 2-3 posts) and I’m not one to spam you throughout the length of the sale regarding restocks and new releases. This year, I purchased 5-10 items that I actually need/think are worthy and highlighted why I think you’ll love them here. Then I’m going to call it a sale and you can refer back to these posts when you decide or are able to shop!
It’s true that the good stuff usually goes quickly and sometimes their site crashes and everyone freaks out but I do want to say two things:
If you miss out on something – IT’S OKAY! Trust me, it will probably come back in stock eventually if you’re really dying for it. Also, everything kind of looks the same every single year so I’m going to bet that you probably already own something similar if you shop this sale frequently.
I do think Nordstrom did a good job this year spacing out the shopping abilities for Nordstrom Card Holders so that stuff doesn’t sell out in 1 hour on the first day. Hopefully this means fewer site crashes (which I would guess they are working hard on assuming majority of shoppers will be online this year) and more time to restock, faster shipping times and the ability to accommodate everyone. Fingers crossed!
I personally am going into the store early today and will be selecting a limited amount of items that I think are actually worthy of your investment this year. A reminder that these are new fall items that are discounted for a short period of time but eventually will be at full price again. A reason to get a good deal on items for fall/winter! I have been somewhat disappointed to see a lower quality product be produced by some of my favorite designers for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and want to make sure that I can touch/feel/wear the good stuff before fully recommending. So when it comes to my strategy for shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale I personally try to focus on classics that I know I get a lot of wear out of year after year. Living in Chicago means my fall and winter wardrobe are used and abused so it’s usually a good time for me to pick up some new denim, coats, sweaters and shoes. I feel like those 4 items are definitely my must have’s and then I can easily fill in with basics throughout the season. Here are a few pieces that have caught my eyes in those 4 categories:
Items I’m Most Excited for from the 2020 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
Denim
Good American Good Legs High Waist Crop Skinny – I have two pairs of Good Legs jeans from last year and they are by far my most flattering and favorite skinny jeans. I actually prefer a cropped style to wear with booties so I’m excited to try these! Another Good Legs style that is part of the sale right here! Definitely check these out if you’re in need of jeans.
Frame Two Step Hem Jeans – again, I love these with flats in the fall or booties once it gets cooler. I actually have a lighter version of these from a couple years ago and love to see these in black!
Wit and Wisdom High Waist Ankle Jean – so many of you recommended this brand last year and I’m excited to snag a couple of pairs to try this year! They are a great price point (under $50!). I also want to try this pair!
Coats
Theory Wool and Cashmere Trench Coat – I try to invest in a nice coat during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and this is one that I’m majorly eyeing! I love that it appears to be a little shorter so won’t feel so heavy but we will see.
Sam Edelman Notched Collar Wool Blend Coat – I also love this style! Such a classic that I know would hold up so well. I love the buttons on this one and the details are just really nice. Stay tuned to see which one I pick!
Barbour Quilted Jacket – two years ago I bought a Barbour rain coat during the Sale and it’s still one of my most loved in the fall. BUT, I also love this new quilted style with the corduroy collar. A good throw on to run out the door and weekend coat to have.
Patagonia Water Repellent Insulated Coat – If you live in the Midwest or anywhere that experiences cold weather that isn’t to the point that requires a coat to your ankles then this style is my absolutely favorite. Bulky, insulated coats can sometimes swallow you up but I love these shorter versions for keeping your shape. Both colors are fun! Also shameless plug for Patagonia Better Sweaters – my favorite and included in the sale this year!
Thread & Supply Cardi Coat – very interested in trying this! I feel like it could be a really nice throw on and make any outfit look chic kind of deal without feeling super bulky.
Sweaters
Barefoot Dreams Long Weekend Cardigan – I mean knowing that I’m going to be pregnant through the holidays I feel like I would LIVE in this. Would also make an amazing Christmas gift for any lady on your list. I feel like this is a no brainer purchase so I’ll most likely buy and report back!
Chelsea 28 Cowl Neck Sweater – I feel like this is such a pretty staple that I’m excited to try. I love the tan and black colors. Cute with jeans, skirts and boots for fall, work pants, over workout clothes and more.
Vince Double Slit Mock Neck Sweater – This is definitely an investment but I have purchased Vince sweaters during the last couple Anniversary Sale’s and they are so loved. If I know I would pay full price for them (the quality is that good) then why not grab on sale, you know? I love the tunic length of this one, perfect for a growing belly!
Treasure & Bond Longline Cardigan – Another classic to throw on over a dress, jeans and a tee or whatever. You know this is a style that will never go out of style.
Topshop Cable Sleeve Cardigan – Year after year the Topshop cardigans from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale are always the first to go. I’m going to link it here because you know this is a style that will be worn time and time again but if you don’t snag it, don’t worry there are a million other styles out there!
Topshop Pleated Sleeve Sweatshirt – Sharing this because you guys know I love a good statement sweatshirt and this one is classic but fun! Love the cream color.
Halogen Crewneck Cashmere Sweater – you CAN’T BEAT the price tag on this cashmere sweater. $58! Really excited to feel this one in person, I’ll share my thoughts!
Shoes
Can I start by saying that everything in the shoes department looks the same every year. If you bought booties last year DO NOT BUY ANOTHER PAIR THAT LOOKS THE SAME THIS YEAR. If you’ve already checked the box in that department then don’t feel guilty about making any purchase during this sale at all but especially when it comes to accessories which seems like a quick pull of the trigger for most. I’m here to tell you that if you do a quick survey of your closet, you probably already have a lot of these items (across all categories).
Marc Fisher Pointed Toe Bootie – The price and colors on this are impressive (I feel like items are maybe more discounted this year? I don’t know). I love the two brown colors, so gorgeous! The black leather is fab, too. $100.
Madewell Remi Mule – I want to try the fit on these but I realllllly like the leopard print they used on this style! The snakeskin is chic, too.
Marc Fisher Square Toe Loafer – love the snakeskin and the taupe! So pretty.
UGG Fluffette Slipper – I want these, that’s all. Ha!
Blondo Waterproof Bootie – I love the heal height on these and the fact that they are waterproof and that they are $100! If you live in a place that experiences all of the winter elements then these would be a great bootie to consider!
Nike Air Zoom Pegasus Running Shoe – if you are in need of a new shoe for running or cardio, I have and love these from Nike! I ran in them for 3 years before switching to the On but for no reason other than I wanted to try something new. I LOVE these!

Since we have a new baby on the way and Jack pretty much used hand me downs on things like our infant car seat I’m definitely going to be taking advantage of some of the baby gear deals. We used and loved the Nuna Pipa for both boys but the straps no longer stay tight and it’s time to upgrade. I’ll definitely be picking up the Nuna Pipa LITE online!
