Holiday Hair: The Easiest Half Up Hairstyle

This may be the easiest hair tutorial ever thanks to my lovely hairstylist, Reva at Salon Buzz in the Gold Coast. I was honestly shocked that 1. it was done in 2 minutes and 2. it looked as good as it did! I love the messy, undone, classic vibe but it still feels so much more special than anything I would ever do myself.

Because beauty isn’t really my forte, I never want my hair or makeup to look too done. Do you know what I mean? I want it to feel effortless. Here is a step by step tutorial for mastering this look:

*note: we are building off the curls tutorial that we shared here

Start with a texture spray and use throughout your hair. Reva used Shu Uemura Texture Wave Spray (for dry hair). This will make your hair more manageable when styling.

Part the front of your hair from the top down to the top of your ear on both sides (as seen in first two images).

Join them together in the back with an elastic (not a bobby pin ) creating a half up ponytail.

Take the ponytail and loop it through the hair above the elastic (like it’s the 90’s again) this will cause the sides to look like twists. We looped my hair twice to create a more dramatic twist on each side.

Lightly pull on the twists to loosen and secure with bobby pins where needed.

Gently pull pieces out around your hairline to soften the style. Finish with a light mist of hairspray and done!

How amazing does this look? I was seriously so impressed and I love that ANYONE could easily do this to themselves. I’m always looking to elevate my hairstyles are the holidays and this look would be perfect for anything from a casual brunch or ornament exchange to a black tie event.
