Beauty Favorites: What’s In My Medicine Cabinet

Liz Adams of Sequins & Stripes shares her favorite beauty products in her medicine cabinet.  Over the weekend I shared a peek at my medicine cabinet and talked about a few of my favorite skincare products. I received so many questions and thought it would be best to share them here so you can refer back to them! To be clear, this post is focused on skincare which personally is more important to me than makeup products. The reason this topic was sparked was because one of my instagram followers asked me how I try so many products without fearing that they would cause me skin to breakout, etc.? I am really regimented about my skincare routine but I do switch it up/test new products. The products I do try are made up of similar ingredients to my staples – majority are natural ingredients, clean and free of any harsh irritants – which is why I never seem to notice an issue with my skin when I switch up my routine. Here are a few of my favorites:

Makeup Remover

L’Oreal Micellar Water – I am obsessed with this stuff. It removes all of your makeup (even waterproof, easily) and leaves your skin extremely hydrated. I typically use this at night before my cleanser. I apply it with these pads. You can read more about Micellar water and how it works here

M-61 SuperSoothe E Makeup Remover – I love this makeup remover because it doubles as a toner and really sets your face up for the day ahead. I’ll use a quick swipe of this in the morning. Just to prep my skin for makeup and get any leftover makeup (usually mascara) off my face. I like to use this during the day because it leaves your skin feeling very even vs. a moisturized layer that comes from the micellar water remover.

Cleansers

Indie Lee Brightening Cleaner – smells amazing and gets your skin clean! No residue and a great base for your makeup beauty routine. I like to use this in the morning.

Elemis Gentle Foaming Facial Wash – I love to use this at night because is moisturizing and creates a really rich lather.

Exfoliator

M-61 Power Glow Peel – True story: 6 months before our wedding I wanted to make sure my skin was in great shape. I went to Blue Mercury to have a consultation (I like this store because they have reputable brands but their estheticians don’t just promote one brand over the other. They really give you advice and opinions from all brands!). They introduced my to the M-61 line and the first two products I bought – and have used ever since – are these facial pads and the Jetglow serum (detailed below). I don’t use these while pregnant because of the salicylic acid but I swear, this in combination with the serum is a MIRACLE WORKER. It clarifies, resurfaces and firms your skin, getting rid of any dead skin cells and literally setting your skin up for success. Plus, they are so easy to take with you on the go or throw in your makeup bag.

Serums

M-61 Jetglow Serum – My favorite favorite favorite. I’m obsessed with this stuff. I’ve used it for 3 years and I swear it keeps my skin looking younger, more even toned, tight and fresh. To me, serums are the most important step if you want to make changes or start preventing signs of aging. I apply it after a cleanser or exfoliator so my pores are open and it can be successfully absorbed. Before applying moisturizer I honestly see a change in my skin – I like more glowy, more awake and just healthier. It’s a must have! If your skin is lacking moisture, I also love the Hydraboost serum! I drink a ton of water so my skin always feels pretty buoyant but this really helps if you feel like your skin is lack-luster.

*PS: I swear this isn’t an add for M-61 products, I just love them!

Moisturizers

Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream – I am not kidding when I say that this is the best smelling moisturizer I have ever used. I was introduced to Elemis a year ago and continue to love all of their products. I also use and love the oxygenating night cream. Both products pride themselves on working with your skin’s natural regeneration process – meaning it works to better your skin without any harsh chemicals. Both of these items provide intense amounts of hydration without feeling heavy.

Fresh Vitamin Nectar Moisture Glow Face Cream – I can’t say it better than the store’s description of this product. It is a revitalizing moisturizer that awakens dull skin for an incredibly vibrant, healthy-looking glow. Honestly, that’s exactly what it feels like when you use this product. Awake, refreshed, vibrant – it’s like a blast of citrus for your face. I have been making Dave use it and he described it as that first sip of fresh squeezed OJ, but for your skin. My favorite cream to use in the morning!

Eye Cream

Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream – I’m kind of addicted to this stuff (sometimes I put it all over my face – haha). On mornings when I look like I got hit with the ugly stick, I swear this stuff brings me back to life. It has a highlighter to it plus is made with caffeine and ginseng to wake up your under eyes. Sometimes I throw this on with a little mascara and call it a day!

Elemis Pro-Collagen Advanced Eye Cream – My go-to night cream. In all honesty – do eye creams really work? I don’t know. I think if you keep the area around your eyes as moisturized as you can then great! Do they all kind of feel like they are doing the same thing? Yes. At least this one promotes collagen which I know our skin loses as we get older. Sounds good to me!

Face Oils

Elemis Superfood Facial Oil – With superfood in the name, how can it not be good for your skin? I use this before bed to deeply hydrate my skin while I sleep. It is packed with good things and works magic overnight. Plus, it smells like you’re at a spa. Elemis recently sent me their Pro-Collagen Marine Oil which I love too!

Origins High-Potency Night-A-Mins Skin Oil – This stuff is a godsend. I save it for the nights when my skin really needs some love (like after a hangover, lack of water, lack of sleep). I swear you wake up looking more vibrant! It is like a dose of antioxidants for your skin.

PS: I talked about my new favorite concealer on my instagram stories, too! You can find it here and I wear the color “light.”

I have a ton of products in my medicine cabinet (that I love!) but these products stuck out as my all time favorites. If you have any questions feel free to leave them in the comments! xx
