Well, we got a puppy! Dave and I are gluttons for punishment and although most days we feel like we are living in complete chaos, we thought, why not add a little more. We had been discussing getting another dog for over a year and right before the holidays we found the sweetest little puppy to add to our family. Meet Penny! She is a chocolate lab, hound mix and we rescued her through Southern Tails for Precious Paws, a local Charleston rescue.

We already have a 3 year old chocolate lab named Bear. Bear is a sweet boy but has always been a little anxious and never quite knew his role in a home of 3 young very loud, high energy boys. Bear barks at everything outside of our windows, constantly thinks he has to be the protector of our home and Dave and I started to feel like Bear needed a project. Over the past year we had been looking at local rescues, knowing we wanted a lab of some sort but thinking we would try to skip the puppy phase and get a one year old dog. We have taken Bear to meet a few that we thought sounded like a good fit and with every visit we witnessed Bear’s skepticism and anxiousness come out. We sort of decided that if we got another dog it needed to be a puppy and that we weren’t going to be in a rush.

In early December I was on a brand trip in Mexico and a friend of mine reached out saying she was fostering the sweetest puppy and remembered we were kind of in the market. When I got home we decided to meet her and there was almost an immediate sense of “oh my gosh, this is our puppy!” Bear loved her and was so interested in her, the first sign of success, and the kids are completely in love. It took a few days to figure out everything through the rescue organization but we brought Penny home in mid-December and haven’t looked back!

She was just about 12 weeks old when we brought her home and lucky for us she was already sleeping through the night. We have her in a crate if we are out of the house but otherwise she has free rein with Bear. She definitely needs to go outside every 30-60 minutes during the day and my rugs have quite a few accidents on them but every week gets better. Bear is not a super cuddly dog but Penny is so cuddly!! Bear and Penny sleep between us in bed and all she wants to do is be wrapped up near you.

And fun little tidbit, Penny was from a litter of 9 puppies (go mom!) and our neighbors and close friends adopted her sister, Birdie! So Penny’s sister lives two houses down. It is just the best!! You know those videos you see online about getting your dog a puppy and hoping it works, well I couldn’t be more happy with our decision.
