When I worked in the corporate world I enjoyed dressing up. I was always on the dressier side compared to most women in my office. It made me feel good about myself and that reflected on my work and how I performed. It is almost a state of mind. That is the cool thing about personal style. Feeling good about yourself, dressing well, walking out the door with confidence – it helps you run the day!
For me, dressing for work is all about balance. If my clothing feels stuffy then I like to compliment the pieces with stylish accessories. I love that this pinstripe dress is an old school print but with an updated swingy silhouette. I paired it with my Joie burgundy sandals to bring out the stripes. If I were in an office environment I would probably throw on another layer like a blazer. Here are a few more outfit ideas:
- a classic black dresss, a tailored blazer and caged heels
- a sleek pair of pants with a textured sweater and printed ballet flats
- wide leg pants, a high collared blouse and a cashmere cardigan
It is always important to add some texture to your work look. You never want your outfit to appear too flat. I like to incorporate softer knits, cashmere, suede etc. into my work attire when I can!
Note to self: carrying a baby on my hip really wrinkles my clothes! As a working mom you just kind of let those things slide. When I think I look good walking out the door, someone pulls a chunk of food out of my hair or notices spit up down my back (and it is always half way through the day, too).
