Living in Chicago means cold, long winters—especially with kids! We are a pretty active family and it’s important for us to get outside even in the frigid temperatures. One of our favorite places to enjoy is Fullersburg Woods— a local Forest Preserve that has a ton of paths and beautiful areas to explore. It is just as pretty in the winter as it is in the summer so when our kids are getting a little stir crazy indoors we bundle up and head out for some fresh air. It is easy to make excuses for staying in but I’m always happy when we make the effort to get outside! Watching Charlie and Jack enjoy the snow, look for ducks, discover a new trail or just enjoy the sunshine—these types of experiences are small but so special. 

We’ve made a point to not let the long winter keep us indoors so we rely on the best cold weather gear to let us enjoy our favorite outdoor activities. Dave and Charlie are little twins in their matching Patagonia—one of our favorite brands for winter activities. Jack is bundled up in the coziest bunting and his little snow boots are the cutest. My Backcountry splatter jacket is one of my most complimented coats and the fit is so so nice and flattering. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a winter coat that is great for outdoorsy activities!

By the end of our days in the snow, the boys are so rosy and happy and I feel so grateful that we were able to capture these moments.
