The Importance of Dressing for Yourself

A reader recently asked me at what point I felt back to my old self after baby and I think it is right now. I remember feeling similar with Charlie. After about 9 months I was gaining my confidence back, enjoyed getting dressed again, and felt better about getting a babysitter and dedicating more time to myself. Motherhood is obviously amazing but it is all-encompassing. My kids demand 100% of my attention, 100% of the time. I’ve realized the importance of stepping out of mom life and how doing so makes me a much better and more present mother to Charlie and Jack. This is all especially true when it comes to dressing for yourself!

One of the ways I feel better about myself is putting energy and thought into what I wear. It is such a simple task but something that can shape my entire day! The days I feel the most confident is when I walk out the door feeling good about what I’m wearing and the energy I’m putting out into the world. We all deserve to look and feel our best every single day! I used to be one of those girls who pinned outfits on Pinterest and would think “I loooove that but it would look ridiculous on me!” or “where would I ever wear this?” I decided that there is no reason I can’t have fun with my wardrobe or wear the things that I WANT TO WEAR. Dressing for yourself seems like such a simple thing but it makes your daily routine that much more fun!

I feel like this outfit is a perfect example of something that I would want to wear. I can come up with every excuse under the sun to not get dressed but when I do I swear my day is so much better! I’ve found the best pieces from Lord & Taylor for fall, including this cute plaid mini and my new favorite booties. Jack and I met Dave for lunch last week and I was so excited to throw on something other than jeans and a tee. I paired a cozy grey tee with my plaid mini to dress it down a bit but couldn’t pass on these fabulous Marc Fisher boots. I don’t know why I haven’t bought a style like this before but trust me you’ll be seeing these a lot. The chunky heel makes them super comfortable and they look great with skinny jeans and sweaters, too. Also, if you’re a mom and haven’t bought a stylish backpack yetyou are missing out. This is my new favorite bag for fall! I love that it can hold all of my stuff + wipes, diapers, and snacks for the kiddos. I feel a little like Cher from Clueless in this outfit and I love it.

Pssst, now is a great time to shop Lord & Taylor because it’s their Friends & Family sale! Use code FRIENDS to get 30% OFF almost everything, plus 15% OFF almost all beauty (ends 10/23). That means my ENTIRE OUTFIT is on sale! Woohoo!

So tell me, what outfit have you been dying to wear but scared to try? Maybe we should do something in our private FB group to help push each other to step out of our comfort zones a little! What are your thoughts?
