If you follow me on instagram you probably saw that we spent the 24 hours in Chicago for my birthday this past weekend! When Dave and I were deciding what to do, we were torn between spending the night downtown on our own or bringing Charlie. We only have a few free weekends left before the new baby arrives (crazy) so we knew that we wanted him to join us. The majority of our time downtown was planned around him (train rides, boat rides, parks) but it was so much fun watching his eyes explore and enjoying the city.
We stayed at The Langham Chicago which is without a doubt my favorite hotel in Chicago. Location, views, decor, service, food – every detail is perfect (it’s also the only hotel in Chicago with a 5 star rated spa. It was such a treat to settle in for 24 hours. They always make you feel like you’re at home! We had a one bedroom suite (thanks to the generous Langham team) which made it really easy with Charlie. Usually we stick him in an oversized closet or bathroom so having a space for him where we could also hang after he went to sleep was key. I was so excited to just sit in our big, fluffy bed in a robe. We were on the club level which allowed for a full breakfast, afternoon tea, appetizers and cocktails in the evening and 180 degree views of the city/river. A fun escape from the heat!
Our itinerary while we were downtown was short and sweet – we took the train into the city, dropped off our bags at the Langham, walked to Millennium Park/Maggie Daley Park, headed to dinner at True Food Kitchen, drank a glass of champagne in bed and watched Bridesmaids. In the morning we had breakfast at the Langham before going on a Chicago Architecture Boat Tour (I’ve done 6 of these in my life and they are still my favorite! We like Wendella boats because they have a bar :), a walk for gelato and we grabbed a train back to the suburbs. Short and sweet but just what we needed!
I made a short little video of our time in the city. I’m trying to get better about sharing more – whether it’s on social media or YouTube. I’d love to hear what you’d like to see on my Youtube! I will definitely be sharing more interior design projects and home stuff, soon.
