Goals for 2016

goals for 2016goals for 2016goals for 2016the best workout attire for 2016It’s crazy to think about 2015 and realize that I was pregnant for almost the entire year. Last year threw me for a total loop and my goals that I set (being a better business owner, working harder on my site, growing my social media, etc.), well all of those things don’t seem to matter as much anymore. Don’t get me wrong, this site and my job are still so incredibly important to me but life comes first these days and Sequins & Stripes will reflect that moving forward.

It has been 14 weeks since I had Charlie and I am currently 3 pounds above my pre-baby weight. I am breastfeeding and I’ve read that fat tends to hang around when you’re nursing but I am determined to do good for my body and baby in 2016. If breastfeeding has taught me anything it’s that our bodies are AMAZING. My body is no longer mine, it is a beautiful machine that is working for my baby and whatever I put in will in some way be transferred to him. I want to work to make my body stronger – on the inside and out – and 2016 is going to be the year that I create the best version of myself.

This resolution is nothing new, everyone vows to exercise more and eat healthier but this year I really mean it. Here are a few things that I am determined to do to better myself in the new year:

  • Start each day with a glass of water with a lemon
  • Drink 10 glasses of water per day
  • Go to TDM 3 days per week (mom’s: TDM has an amazing infant/child care!)
  • Do Tone It Up videos when Charlie is sleeping
  • Be active at least 15-30 minutes per day
  • No alcohol Sunday-Thursday (try to maintain this as much as possible)
  • Stick to a lean meat, veggie and fruit diet (limit dairy, sugar and complex carbs)
  • Buy cute workout clothes and wear all day so I feel better about myself 😉

I don’t know about you but cute workout gear is a game changer in my routine. Not only does it make me feel more confident during my workouts but wearing fitted clothing also makes me feel more determined to make a change. That might be a silly concept but it works for me. I’ve rounded up some fun items that I’m looking to add to my closet to help get my butt into gear.

What are your resolutions??

  1. I was just reading about how cute workout clothes is a motivation for some women…myself included! I love the Beyond Yoga mesh tights…a bit sexy but so different. I’m actually doing “Dry January” …lets see how that works out. haha Thanks for sharing — Soraya

  2. I was in the same boat almost 4 months post baby. Tone It Up videos saved my sanity and my body! I would do workouts while Ava napped or was out with my mom for an errand. I’m now back to pre-baby weight, and my body isn’t exactly the same but heck…it housed, protected and birthed a human so I can’t expect it to be completely normal!

  3. I love that your goals are focused around making you better, so that you can be better for Charlie and everyone else! I’m sure as a mom, their is little time for you, but I’m glad you are making YOU a priority!

    Cheers to a wonderful year!

  4. I’m due with my first in March this year, and this post really hits home for me! I’ve had a pretty good pregnancy, and I’ve tried to maintain my fitness throughout (lots of barre, prenatal pilates and soulcycle when I’m up for some fun cardio), but with the new year, I’ve been thinking about that resolution, of getting to my best self. You hit the nail on the head, and even though I’m 30 weeks pregnant, unable to really “go hard or go home” on the exercise and diet, I’m pinning this post as inspiration to come back to after the baby is born! Thanks Liz, you’re doing great!!

  5. Love your goals! They are all very reasonable and attainable. Thank you for sharing! Your should look into Outdoor Voices workout gear – fashionable and functional.

  6. I love that your goals are so realistic! I’ve loved following you along your new journey, and appreciate your honesty and openness. Best of luck with your new goals – I have the same in preparation for an April wedding! <3

  7. One of my resolutions is to stop skipping exercise like I did all last year. So far I’m doing great, maybe I need some new a beautiful working out clothes to keep me motivated

  8. Sing it, sister! I just stopped breastfeeding my 14 month old and the last few pounded melted off immediately after weaning. I felt i was always eating when bf’ing, something similar to Chris Farley’s Cindy in SNL’s mall girls sketch. Keep it up and hope you get to bf as long as you and Charlie want ♡

  9. I love this post because I love goals so much. Although I don’t have a baby (Your lil Charlie is SOOO cute! I love following you on Snapchat!), I’ve recently become obsessed with not only what I put in my body, but what I put ON my body and in my house. Lotions, shampoos, dish soap, makeup, etc. The statistics are frightening and you will be freaked out to learn the amount of toxic chemicals in breastmilk that get there because of what our skin absorbs. I just became a Beautycounter consultant and I highly highly recommend checking their products out. I have high standards and LOVE all their skincare and makeup products. They even have a kids bath line! It was started by an awesome mom/wife who started looking at the ingredients in her kids’ products. Gwyneth Paltrow’s blog goop is another great resource. They only sell safe, non-toxic makeup in their online shop. And if you’re looking for a great read on it, Not Just A Pretty Face will completely get you to clean up your makeup bag and house! OK done with the rambling (: Love your blog and have been following for years!! <3 xx
