When I think of my style I like to think it is comfortable, generally casual (although I love a good dress up day), feminine and transitional. Living in Chicago means fall/winter clothes make up 80% of my closet so this time of year is when I start to look at my closet to see what needs to go, what can stay and where to invest in my fall wardrobe.

Generally my closet is filled with staples that I wear year round. A white blouse, a blazer, a nice pair of denim, a cashmere sweater, a cami, a day-to-night dress, and a classic coat (just FYI this coat is going to go FAST) – all items that I genuinely wear mostly every season. These items are what I consider my biggest investments because the amount of wear far surpasses the sometimes high price point.

Every couple of months I like to go through my closet and decide which items maybe need a new home, come up with new ways to style items that I love or part ways with pieces that have been over worn or are looking tired. I’m realizing that if I have to much fluff in my closet I get overwhelmed when it comes to deciding what to wear. Less is more in my eyes and sometimes fewer options help me come up with outfits I can count on for various situations. As I get older and my life doesn’t require outfits for work, nights out, etc. I see my style transitioning to a more effortless, every day style. Building a wardrobe of staple pieces helps getting dressed become easier and way more fun!

This outfit is a perfect example of transitioning your style from summer to fall. I would wear this polka dot blouse with jean shorts on hot days or throw a cozy cardigan/coat over it on cool fall days. I actually just ordered this white top because it is a similar style and great for every day. I can’t wait to wear these blush slides with denim and my new favorite cozy sweater (I bought in an XS). Such an effortless look for running around town! I’m considering ordering them in black, too.

Do you have any go-to looks that you depend on to transition your wardrobe between seasons?
