It sounds like a silly concept! Why wouldn’t your personal style make you happy? Because I work in an industry that is significantly influenced by fashion trends, it is easy for me to get sucked into something that may not feel truly authentic to my personal style. Over the past year I have found myself going through my closet and thinking to myself “why did I buy this?” and I hate that feeling! It has reminded me to only purchase items that bring joy to my closet and that make me feel confident when I wear them. I often see an influencer or celebrity wearing something cute without even considering if it would work for my body type, etc. before adding it to my shopping cart. A bad habit but something that happens often because I’m easily influenced (see what I did there…!)..

I have been redefining my style since becoming a mom and I finally feel like I’m in a place where I feel happy, inspired and comfortable with my personal style.  I tend to purchase pieces that I know I will get lots of wear out of which means I’m buying less of those quick fashion items and more investment pieces. This stripe jumpsuit was one of those items that just felt like me. Classic, comfortable, effortless but stylish and cute! I love a good jumpsuit. It is an easy outfit all in one piece but appropriate when it comes to playing with my kids and spending the day running from one thing to the next. It looks great with a blazer or a denim jacket (did you see Carolyn’s post about the best denim jackets??).

I often go through a little checklist in my head before buying something new:

  1. Does this item make me happy?
  2. Is the item in my budget?
  3. Will this item get worn often/maximize the other items in my closet?
  4. Do I feel confident when I wear this item?

If I answer yes to all of these questions then I usually bite the bullet! What is your formula for creating a personal style that you love?
