One of my most frequently asked questions is about jeans! What are my favorite brands, what size do I wear, what styles do I love, etc. I tend to buy the same brands and styles over and over again so at this point I feel like I know what works best for my body type. I am typically a size 27/4 in denim but more comfortable in a 28/6 right now, I carry a lot of weight in my thighs (they are very muscular for my short frame) and I’m 5’4″. I’m drawn to an ankle length skinny/straight jean because it usually elongates my legs a bit by showing some skin on my ankle. I keep trying to make mom jeans work but they are just too overwhelming on my short frame. Since they are wider it kind of makes my entire leg look as wide as my thighs which is not a good thing. As I’ve gotten older I’ve realized that it is better to accentuate my curves rather than hide them under baggier styles. Anyways, here are my favorite denim brands and why:

  1. Frame: My favorite style is the Le High (I have them in the skinny and straight!). I love that they have stretch but not so much that they get super stretched out after one wear. Their darker washes are my favorite and hold up well in the wash!
  2. Madewell: The best quality denim I’ve found at a good price! They have a lot of stretch which I love for days when I don’t feel my best. I will say that sometimes I think too much stretch causes the denim to lose it’s color after a few washes but still worth it in my opinion. Current favorites here and here
  3. Rag & Bone: The first skinny jean I ever loved was this pair and it is still one of my absolute favorites. I buy a new pair every year! The perfect amount of stretch but they suck you in, too!
  4. DL1961: I love the Emma Legging jeans! They are super flattering and another pair that I feel like really sucks me in. My favorite black pair of all time is here. I also highly recommend their maternity jeans!!
  5. Abercrombie & Fitch: Another great brand for those on a budget! Their high rise skinny jeans fit like a glove.

Are there any amazing denim brands that I’m missing?? What are your favorites? Leave them in the comments for other readers to see!

  1. I’ve recently been splurging on jeans lately because I wear them so much! I love 7’s blair skinny jean (so light and comfy) and I recently got a pair of MOTHER hustler denim and I really like them too (SO soft and comfortable)

  2. Girl, I didn’t know we are the same size! I’m usually a 4 but after treatments, it cause me to bloat a bit and a 28/6 fits me better these days. And omg haha idk why i just girrlll you! I think I was excited? I also love Madewell and Abercrombie jeans!

  3. I love Madewell jeans so much – I feel like they are the most flattering on me and the quality is awesome for the price. After my first pair of black jeans faded really quickly, I was bummed. Because I loved them, I bought another pair and started dry cleaning them. I know that sounds ridiculous , but I am a jeans girl and wear denim almost every day, so having a method that works made me happy. I’ve now have three pair of Madewell jeans of varying washes for almost two years and with dry cleaning, they haven’t faded at all!

  4. I really need to upgrade from the Old Navy jeans I have, thanks for the recommendations! I’ve heard good things about Frame and Madewell.

  5. Great recommendations! I also love any high to midrise Hudson… they are super soft!

When you get jeans from A&F, do you order the regular size or short? I’ve never tried their jeans, but we are basically the same size and I’m also 4 months post partum.

  6. Was JUST going to send in a request for this post! I have a similar frame as yours so this is super helpful πŸ‘ŒπŸ» Thanks, liz!

  7. Having a latina body is difficult to get in jeans (a whole lotta curves) because they can sometimes get stuck on our thighs but then they’re too big at the waist. Its a struggle! I find that the jeans that fit me best are the high-waisted jeans from American Eagle. I’ll have to try some of these out to see if they’re a good fit!

  8. I love Black Orchid Denim! My favorite style is the Jude Super Skinny – the fabric is extremely comfortable. I also think GAP denim is really cute this season. I just got their super high rise skinny ankle 360 stretch (with a button up fly & raw hem) and I am totally obsessed. πŸ™‚

  9. I absolutely love Madewell’s high-rise jeans. I am also recently obsessed with Levi’s Wedgie skinny jeans. They are super cute and somehow I seem to have acquired them in three different washes over the last couple of months. Ooops!

  10. Good American jeans fit amazingly and although they are on the mid-high price range they are worth every penny! My favorite are the high waisted cut…

  11. Great post Liz! Love Madewell too, and the fact that you can recycle any old pair of jeans and they will give you credit toward a new pair!

  12. Great selections! You have to check out the AG Farrah high rise ankle! LOVE them and the ankle length is great for us 5’4″ girls – oh and I am in love with the Madewell cali demi boot crop! πŸ™‚

  13. Love this post so much! I love that you did not just say what jeans were your favorite, but you gave a detailed description on why. So helpful! Cant wait for #CWL πŸ˜‰ Cooking With Liz.

    Best!

  14. Thank you for doing a denim post, Liz! I was literally walking around the mall for hours last week trying to find good jeans- so hard to find! Thanks for breaking it down πŸ™‚

  15. Hi Liz! Do you have recommendations on maternity jeans – both early on and later on the in the pregnancy? And if they fit true to size as well? I’ve been wearing my Madewell “fat” jeans recently (you know, for those “recovering after pizza all weekend” days, but I’m interested in their maternity jeans for a better fit.

  16. Believe it or not one of my favorite pairs came from Banana Republic. I bought them 2 years ago after my son was born, and they still fit like a glove without fading! I want to try Madewell jeans too – maybe a white pair for the summer!

  17. Love Madewell denim too! Just recently tried Free People Denim and love them. They have added lots of stretch (which I like for post baby!) and their price point is πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ!
