One of my favorite things to do with Charlie is run mindless errands around our neighborhood. It makes me feel like a total mom; a feeling that I like to take full advantage of. I love having my little companion join me on things that used to be a nagging task. He flirts with everyone, is always waving and is just so much fun to have by my side. We usually go grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s down the street followed by a latte/donut date at Stan’s on Clark. The best part of my week.

Living in the city with a baby is a blast but most days it can be difficult to maneuver. Luckily we are fortunate to live close enough to everything we could possibly need but I’ve learned to take advantage of products that make being a mom easier. Especially in the winter. Living on the third floor of a walk up never bothers me until it is 10 degrees outside and I have to run an errand with Charlie. It is Chicago winters that made me realize the importance of a good stroller…

It just so happens that we took these photos on a day that it was actually 45 degrees but our Bugaboo Donkey Weekender makes you feel prepared for whatever weather comes your way. As a mom who has gone through 4 strollers (yes, you read that correctly) to find one that actually works for our family and the future of our family – there is no competition. Not only is it stylish but it comes with everything you could possibly need to keep your kiddo safe and dry.

The Donkey Weekender comes with a bassinet for when your baby is fresh from the hospital and also the seat for when you’re ready to transition to a seated position. I love that the seat can be reclined and also positioned very upright (Charlie’s favorite so he can wave to everyone we pass). It also comes with a stylish duffel bag that turns into our diaper bag whenever we are out and about. It carries SO MUCH. You can even detach and use as an overnight bag (which we also do regularly). Having the extra storage, in addition to the basket below, makes runnings errands in the city so much easier. My favorite detail is that the Donkey Weekender can be extended to a double stroller (you can find the extender here) making it ideal for growing families.

Before I became a mom, I didn’t realize the importance of a good stroller. Like I said before, this is my 4th stroller and honestly, it is worth every single penny. I love this limited edition style – the faux leather is so fun and I always receive so many compliments. It definitely makes maneuvering around the city with a toddler much easier.

Outfit details: Burberry Coat via Nordstrom Rack (last seen here), Abercrombie Jeans, Target Stripe Tee, Golden Goose Sneakers (also here and here), Smartwool Hat, Chloe Bag, Bugaboo Donkey Weekender Stroller c/o
*Charlie’s hat and coat are sold out but he is wearing these shoes.

In collaboration with Bugaboo, all opinions are my own.

  1. I realize you may not be able to do this if you partnered with other stroller companies in the past but I would love a review of the strollers that didn’t work for you and why! Buying baby stuff (especially strollers and carriers) seems so daunting- any advice from a mom I can relate to (versus a jillion online reviews) would be helpful!

      1. I didn’t love our NUNA Ivvi once Charlie got bigger – it was great with our car seat but was super bouncy and didn’t sit up right completely so Charlie was already pushing to sit forward. It’s also HUGE and hard to maneuver. I love love love our City Mini GT and City Tour – we take bother on vacation (the Tour is close to an umbrella stroller).

  2. What is it with kids taking off their shoes?! Lawson has started taking his off and chucking them across the store. I’m lucky I haven’t left one anywhere yet!

I couldn’t agree with you more on the importance of a good stroller. It can make your life easier!

  3. love the post! can’t help but notice how long your hair has gotten! any tips or tricks you can share with us?!

    1. Sorry you feel that way! But they are just things – I’m sure we relate on a ton of other levels. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Hi! I’m in the market for a new stroller (6 week old baby boy!) and love the color/leather detailing of the Bugaboo, but am worried about it getting dirty. I’m wary of getting anything but black and worried that the leather detailing won’t hold up well. How long have you had yours for and have you found it hard to keep clean? Thank you!

  5. Hi Liz! $1,499.00 for a stroller? I’m not sure a lot of American can justify paying this much for a stroller. Just curious — but do you think so?!

I am very curious about your opinion on this & would love to hear it.

    1. Totally understandable and obviously it was gifted to me so this is such a good question! Honestly, the fact that it can be a double stroller makes it much more worth it for me. It comes with both seat options, is super smooth, maneuverable, weather resistant and comes with every cover you could need (both water and warmth for bassinet only) for the seat and bassinet. A really good single stroller runs around $800 so I personally believe that this is a good deal because of the double stroller option. You realize quickly that extra storage is KEY, especially when you live in a city and that is another plus for me. Feel free to email me – liz@sequinsandstripes.com if you have any additional questions!

  6. Ahh, I am so lost on picking the right stroller for the city right now! What was your favorite right out of the hospital?
