My Favorite Skincare Products

the best skincare products for combination skin tried and true skincare products that workthe best beauty products for your skincombat winter skin with these beauty productsthe top tested beauty products for your skinI have been getting a ton of questions about my skincare routine so I thought I’d dedicated a post to my tried and true favorite skincare products. There are a few that I buy again and again (and use religiously) but for the most part I enjoy trying new things and switching it up from time to time.

Let me start by saying that I’m a huge believer that the basis of good skin comes from what you put into your body. Drink A LOT of water. I also believe that a lot of it comes from genetics. Thankfully my parents blessed me with good skin. I would label my skin as combination – a little oily on the T-Zone, specifically my chin, but it gets dry in the winter and is happy in the summer. I have never had to address consistent acne, dry spots, redness or blotchiness but for the most part I like to use products that combat all of these things, just in case.

I think that a night time skin routine is more important than day. At night, I like to load my face up with products that can work their magic while I sleep. During the day I don’t like to layer a bunch of makeup over my skin products so I keep it light. Here is my typical routine (in order) and below I’ll highlight why I like each product…

Day: Cleanser and Moisturizer

Night: Cleanser, Exfoliating Wipe (or scrub), Retinol, Face Serum, Eye Cream, Moisturizer.

DAY

My favorite cleanser is Tate Harper’s Regenerating Cleanser. It is not photographed because I left it in the shower, but it is super light, smells fresh and leaves your skin feeling squeaky clean. It also easily removes makeup and helps your skin wake up in the morning.

My favorite face lotion for day is good old Clinique ‘Dramatically Different’ Moisturizing Lotion. I like it because it is lightweight and absorbs quickly. I don’t want a heavy moisturizer under my makeup (I save that for night!) and love that it layers well. The only down fall is that it does not contain SPF. It isn’t a concern to me because my foundation does have SPF so I get it there.

NIGHT

I use Tata Harper’s Regenerating Cleanser to take off the day.

To exfoliate I use M-61 Power Glow Peel Facial Wipe (I’m addicted to these) or if I think my skin needs a little more scrubbing I’ll use M-61 SuperSoothe Microdermabrasion Scrub. Both products are amazing! They help even out skin tones, remove dead skin and really allow the products you use to sink into your skin. I personally think this step is really important. One of my favorite beauty stores in Blue Mercury (this isn’t sponsored) and M-61 is their personal brand. I love this store because they carry a ton of amazing beauty brands but they aren’t trained to favor one over the other. They have tried every single brand and give you suggestions based on what you’re skin needs and what they thin is best. The M-61 brand is amazing. As you can tell from above I use a lot of their products and have for the past three years (I left my eye cream at my parents but I use that, too!). You can see the full line here.

I’m new to retinol but I’ve recently added into my routine to fight signs of aging (fine lines and wrinkles). I’ve been rotating between Peter Thomas Roth Retinol Fusion PM and Arcona Vitamin A Complex. I really like both products! I’ve read that retinol can be super drying but the PTR Retinol Fusion PM is super moisturizing, which I like.

I am slightly obsessed with face serums. If you opened my medicine cabinet you would easily find 5-6 different kinds. Everyday is different depending on what I feel my skin needs that day. If my skin needs a detox or a boost of goodness, I like to use Aesop’s Parsley Seed Antioxidant Serum. It is gentle but packs a punch and feels like an injection of good stuff for your skin. If my skin feels dull I use Caudalie Radiance Serum. It is the only one I have tried where I see an immediate difference in my skin tone. It appears brighter and more even. If I had one too many drinks the night before or a bad night sleep I’ll use this in the morning, too! The serum I use the most at night is M-61 JetGlow Serum. It is a little more powerful and does everything I want it to do. I can feel it working and I like that!

My favorite eye cream is M-61 Hydraboost Eye Cream (not photographed because I left it at my parents). It is SO moisturizing, firming, reduces dark circles and plumps the skin. That’s it! But isn’t that everything you want in an eye cream?

I rotate between two moisturizers at night. La Mer’s Perfecting Treatment makes your skin feel like velvet and cools the skin. I notice my skin looks brighter and more buoyant when I use this product! If my skin needs the extra moisture (day or night) I use Natura Bissé The Cure. It is thick and luxurious and makes me skin so smooth and soft. Both of these products are a splurge but I promise they are worth it! I’d probably recommend The Cure over the La Mer.

Let me know if you have any questions in the comments!! I’ll try to answer ASAP 🙂

  1. If your budget was say only $200-$300 for ALL skincare products…what would you choose? Or, if you had to start with only a few of the above, which ones and why?

  2. I love reading about others skincare routine, everybody’s routine is so different! I switched over to Kiehl’s products about a year and a half ago and it truly has been life changing. I don’t break out anymore, my dry skin is fixed, and overall my skin just feels so much healthier. Granted I am only 25, I’m very grateful that I’ve found a good routine that works at a young age. I also agree that I’m obsessed with serums, I look forward to putting my night time serum on every day, and have a travel sized night time serum & moisturizers for when I stay at my boyfriend’s.. ha! I would love to know what kind of face masks you use (if any), that’s a beauty item that is still a mystery to me..

Enjoy the rest of your day!
    PS, go cubs!

  3. I discovered the m-61 line through you, and I used the Power Glow Wipes leading up to my wedding day. OBSESSED! I recently added the Caudalie Radiance Serum and love it! I’ve been using Clinique All About Eyes, but I might have to try the m-61 eye cream. Thanks for all your fabulous recommendations!

  4. This was the perfectly timed post for me as I’m just about out on a few of my skincare products! Clinique’s ‘Dramatically Different’ is my go-to for the day, so I will definitely be repurchasing that, but I definitely want to try out some of your suggestions. Thanks for sharing!! Xo

  5. I always love seeing products that other women use on an everyday basis! I haven’t tried an M16 products, but I’m curious to try them!!

  6. I am pregnant and dealing with skin that is uncooperative at best! My first pregnancy, my skin was super clear. Did you have any products that you found particularly effective in pregnancy where retinols (I used Retin-A before pregnancy) are a no-go (as are most really effective skin care products)?

    1. Tata Harper’s entire line! I used all throughout my pregnancy. Otherwise, my skin had to take a break from all of the chemicals 🙂

  7. If you ever want to try a different face oil Beauty Counter makes great products. You can try a few of them at through a special promo with Target right now or on their website. I agree with you, Caudalie face serum is completely amazing!

  8. I am also obsessed with Blue Mercury and M-61. I am currently using their Hydraboost serum, but I am looking forward to trying the Jetglow serum when it runs out! Thanks for all the recommendations!

  9. Peter Thomas Roth UnWrinkle Peel Pads are my FAVE! I will definitely have to try the M1 pads and the PTR Retinol Fusion.

  10. Hi!

This is not skin related but beauty. I love how to always do your hair. Do you use any specific products or curling iron?

    Thank you!!

    1. I use a T3 curling wand and Keratase hair spray! I curl my hair tight, let it cool, spray with hairspray and brush it out with a flat brush 🙂
