Webster had destroyed our previous grey couch (remember this post? I was so pregnant!) and I wanted to minimize what we had but maximize our space. Dave and I bought our old furniture when we moved in together 4 years ago. Since then we have moved apartments and almost doubled our apartment size. When you have a baby you accumulate so much stuff. I was feeling like we needed a fresh start! Today I wanted to share how we decorated our Lincoln Park apartment in the city.

Because we rent we have these beautiful yellow walls (read: I HATE them) that Dave won’t let me paint because our walls our 10-12 feet tall. Yellow walls aside, I wanted to choose items that had texture, were a mix of masculine and feminine and accented with gold and tribal inspired pieces. I didn’t quite know how to decorate a city apartment effectively so I called on Havenly to help.

Let me start by saying I can’t recommend Havenly enough! At this point in our lives we don’t have the budget to pay an interior designer for their services and we decided to look for an alternative. Havenly is an online interior design service where you submit photos of your room, your budget and what you’re looking for and they put together an exact mock up of your room with new furniture that you can shop! We actually received 2 boards and I chose a mix of items from both to create our room.

The one item that I was most excited for was our couch from Interior Define. Interior Define is actually a Chicago company (can’t help but give them some love!) where you can create a custom sofa at prices that are much lower than competitors. The quality is amazing and I love that you can customize anything down to size, color, legs…anything! We went with the Sloan sofa with a right chaise in the Harbor canvas with brass L legs. Dave and I love how the couch turned out and agree (along with a few friends who have slept on it for the night) that it is so incredibly comfortable. Plus, it is sleek and stylish and I know it will fit perfectly into our future home. Webster approves, too.

This is my fourth apartment in the city and the first one that actually feels like our home. Dave and I both agree that we are finally at the stage in our lives where these items are investments. Purchases that we will carry with us for years to come.
