As a new mom there were days when I didn’t leave my apartment, get dressed, shower or dedicate any time for myself. In those first couple of months I remember gazing out the window wondering what the rest of the world was doing while I changed diapers, cleaned up spit up, nursed Charlie around the clock and tried to sleep. The early days can be a little lonely (although every mother out there will tell you you’re not alone! So thankful for all of those wonderful mom’s out there) and I remember after a really hard week my mom told me that I had to take some time for myself and do something that made me happy. That day I left the house for 4 hours, got a mani/pedi, walked around a few stores, bought myself a nutella crepe and tried to fill the minutes until I could return home to my baby boy. It felt refreshing to leave but I couldn’t wait to get back to him. It’s those moments when you realize how grateful you are to be a mom and how important it is to step away so you can be even better than you were before. It is so easy to get down on yourself but always remember that the days are long but the years are short and before you know it your newborn baby will be a little boy in a matter of months (insert sobbing emoji).
So what do I do on days when I need some time for myself? I run mindless errands, go to my favorite barre class, grab a smoothie, window shop, pick up some flowers, get a mani/pedi, go out to lunch with myself or sit at my favorite coffee shop and catch up on work. What are you favorite things to do for you?
