Everything I Use to Get A Good Workout at Home

at home workout, at home equipment, strength training

I have been sharing my workouts here and on my social channels for years. Especially since it became a daily habit in my life after having our second son, Jack. You can browse my archives with loads of fitness posts from that season of my life. I am still in that season but things have looked different since Covid forced us to shelter and figure things out on our own. Fast forward to having a third baby, moving to Charleston and starting a new routine, one thing that has stayed consistent is my love of exercise. Over the past couple of years I have built my own tiny gym (aka the landing of our second floor) where I do strength workouts. I still try to get to a cycle class, run on a treadmill at the gym or outside, or a hot yoga class at least once a week. Other than that my main focus is on strength training and getting my steps in. Here is everything I do and use to ensure a good workout at home!

Let me start by saying that my favorite strength workouts are usually Heather Robertson on Youtube. They are free and she has some great 12 week programs from the past that are a great guide! I also really love The Sculpt Society for toning those fine muscles, dance cardio and their strength category is great (LIZJAN gets you 15% off your first 3 months). I have sort of being interested in trying the MOVES app but wondered how it is to follow? Sometimes I worry I don’t have enough equipment for what I see on IG. Let me know in the comments if you have any insight!

Here is everything I personally have at home to ensure a good, strong workout that pushes me! The key is to get a good range of weights so you can progressively overload your muscles.

At Home Workout Favorites:

Stakt Yoga Mat – I love that this folds up easily for storage, you can stack it to have different levels and it is super padded. LIZADAMS15 gets you 15% off!

WeGym bench – this has especially been a game changer for upper body workouts and elevated leg workouts. I love a bench and used them a lot when I worked with a trainer in Chicago. New to my equipment set up and I love it!

Resistance bands – I use these to channel TRX like moves at home. I will loop them around a stair banister, over a door hinge, around a door knob, etc. A great way to burn out your arms!

TSS Pilates Ball – this is the pilates ball I personally have but anything would work. This helps my core engage deeper than just regular ab workouts. It is crazy how it forces your deep abdominal muscles to contract. It is also a great support if you struggle with lower back pain (common when rebuilding your core post babies). Highly recommend!

Hex Dumbells – this is the brand of my heavy, 30+ lb, dumbbells. My grip strength is pretty weak so I’m still working to build up my heavier weight strength!

TSS 3lb Hand Weights – I always get asked about these when I use them! They are such a great shape for doing longer, drawn out arm workouts with lower weight. I do a lot of these in The Sculpt Society app. Great for defining your muscles!

Amazon Kettlebell – We have two of these, 20lb and 40lb. I love these for leg workouts!

Yoga block – Another recent addition to my “gym” and holy moly they are effective. Great for elevating leg work or putting resistance again core work.

WeGym Safe Grip Dumbbells – I recently got a 10lb set of these and now wish all of my weights were these (the grip is great). My weights have been pieced together over the years but highly recommend these if you’re starting your collection.

Walking Pad – I got my walking pad a couple of years ago and this style looks to be the updated version. It is currently 40% off with great reviews! This one also inclines which mine does not (I wish it did). I love this for getting in extra steps and walking post strength circuit.

That’s it! Everything I have has been collected over the years but hopefully this helps to encourage you to get a good workout in even when you can’t make it to the gym!
