Minimal is my game except when it comes to lip colors, which happen to be my jam in the beauty department. I love trying new shades but up until recently I’ve really started to pay attention to the colors that compliment my skin tone and coloring {rather than contrast}. Since having a few hair and makeup trials before our wedding, I’ve been more regimented with my skin and have been working hard to find ways to make more out of less. I’ve realized that a lip color is a game changer when it comes to brightening up your face and really letting your features shine. It helps to pull out those natural colors in your cheeks, your eyes, and just makes you glow.

Because I don’t wear a ton of make up, the matte lipsticks feels really harsh on my skin so I’ve been opting for products that have a sheer application or moisturizer within the color. Both of these add the perfect hint of glossiness to your lips and helps them to not dry out {with matte lipstick I feel my lips get dry really quickly}. Because I have a warmer complexion with a good amount of freckles, brown eyes and darker hair, rosey to reddish/orange lip colors really pull out the colors in my cheeks, whereas a pink looks amazing on blondes who have a lighter complexion {so envious}. Again, this is my take on a more natural look, I’m all about having fun and pulling out my favorite fuchsia lipstick for a night out with the girls!

So, what are your recent go-to lipsticks? I’ve been rotating between 3 newcomers: Lancome Replenishing & Enhancing Lip Color in Red Chiffon {like butter}, NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Timanfaya Park {the prettiest orange/red and SO soft}, and Sonia Kashuk Satin Luxe Lip Color in Very Berry. But, for fun you can shop all of my favorites below!

  1. I’m the last person to get in on the lipstick game, but I picked up a few Revlon colors when they were on sale a few months ago and have been hooked ever since. A bold lip really pulls an otherwise bare face together- a little concealer and mascara is all you need! Definitely going to look into the NARS color, I’ve been searching for something similar!

  2. right now I can not get enough of my new YSL #208…its one of their matte and its amazing! Also NARS is coming out with a ann. line soon that is rumored to be perfection!

  3. If you like a little shine, you’ve gotta try Stila color balm lipsticks. Valentina is the perfect red/orange (I’m wearing it in my post today actually) and it smells really good too!

  4. I’ve been wanting to step up my lipstick game lately, so your post was perfect! I will definitely check out some of your fave products and shades when I start the hunt for my go-to lipstick.

  5. Love makeup, it has become more of a hobby(an expensive hobby haha). I agree with you, find a lipstick that compliments your skin tone. Contrasting lips so often become the focus and not your face as a whole. One of my favorites is Nars Lip Lacquer Chelsea Girls, it’s the perfect nude.

  6. Have you tried any of the Kate Moss for Rimmel London lipsticks? I love them! even the matte colors are super smooth and don’t feel dry. The colors are saturated, and let me tell you it STAYS on. I really love color 109 which is a berry/wine shade that is dark with out being too dark. I’ve also been wanting to try a Nars shade. Some of their vampy darks seem really fun.
